Course content
The course provides an introduction to advanced theory, which enables students to analyze and critically reflect on digital ecosystems. The course will also present various cases that illustrate different types of digital platforms and ecosystems, and how these ecosystems can be managed and further developed.
Learning outcome
After taking the course?you will:
- have in-depth knowledge of and be able to apply relevant theories to understand digital ecosystems and platforms including network effects, multilateral markets, path dependence and governance
- have knowledge of innovation platforms and transaction platforms and their management and further development
- be able to propose and evaluate management models for digital platforms and ecosystems
- be able to suggest and evaluate strategies for establishing and developing value-creating digital ecosystems
- be able to analyze and evaluate various digital ecosystems
- be able to critically reflect on socially relevant challenges with global platforms and ecosystems

Teaching
2-3 hours of weekly classes that include theory lectures, various individual and group-based activities, and active work with relevant learning cases.

Examination
The course grade is based on the following components:
- Group-based assignment including an oral group presentation accounting for 40% of the overall grade.
- Individual assignment given during the semester accounting for 60% of the overall grade.

Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F?is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.
Resit an examination
In this course, postponed exams are not offered for exam candidates who are ill before the exam or who become ill during the exam. A deferred submission deadline may be offered. Deadlines may be extended up to 7 days; the duration of the extension depends on the duration of the exam.?The illness must be documented with a doctor's certificate dated no later than the ordinary submission date. You must submit the doctor's certificate to the Student Administration at IFI before the submission deadline for the home exam.
